Mission

To promote the development of a socially-oriented society in Ukraine by providing charitable assistance to unprotected social groups, so that they can have a worthy standard of living and equal opportunities for development.

Activities

In 2007-2008, in partnership with specialized service organizations, the 'Krona' Foundation launched an innovative social services program 'Special Children' in thirteen regions of Ukraine. Thanks to the program, 1,551 children with disabilities and other special needs gained access to unique social and rehabilitation services, including a day care center for mentally retarded teenagers, a library of special development toys for blind and visually impaired children, a motivation club called Freedom for adolescents from problem families, integrated groups for children with Down's syndrome, etc.

The project 'Rehabilitation Riding' (city of Sevastopol, launched in 2006) represents an example of Fund's 'Krona' venture philanthropy. The goal of this initiative is social investment in the establishment of a National Center for Therapeutic Horseback Riding for children with special needs in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

Every year, the 'Krona' Foundation runs the 'Special Children' grant competition for NGO projects. The competition aims to increase the level of social protection, adaptation and provision of equal opportunities for disabled children or children with special needs. This noble goal can be achieved by providing financial support to projects, introducing new methods for development of such children, development and implementation of programs of comprehensive support to representatives of the target group in the field of psychological and physical rehabilitation, medical-social and social-rehabilitating, social-pedagogic services, socialization and adaptation of special children, etc.

The foundation implements a series of systematic programs for orphan children and children deprived of parental care. The program 'My Cozy Home' is aimed at reforming the boarding school infrastructure and improving living conditions boarding schools with the purpose of creating decent conditions for orphan children's development that are in line with modern world standards for care and the requirements of the Concept for a State Program for Reforming the Boarding School System. Two boarding schools in the Donetsk and Chernihiv regions are currently under the patronage of the Krona Foundation.

The 'Krona' Foundation provides direct social services within the framework of two programs: the comprehensive social support program 'Big Heart for a Small Life' and the all-Ukrainian program 'Social Adaptation Course' for orphan children and children deprived of parental care, including those in higher and graduating classes at boarding schools and social rehabilitation schools.

Fund's 'Krona' Emergency Assistance Program aims to develop a mechanism for providing children in crisis situations with financial support, treatment and medicine, necessary goods and services, and also support them by organizing events to raise money at the regional and national level. In just six months, the program allocated over UAH 790,000 for treatment of children in specialized oncological hospitals abroad.

The 'Krona' Foundation has made children's oncology in Ukraine a special line of activity. We cooperate in this field with the Children's Onco-Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation Center at the OKHMATDIT Ukrainian Children's Specialized Hospital and the onco-hematology department of the Lviv Region Children's Specialized Hospital.

In June 2008, the 'Krona' Foundation and the Kyiv Region State Administration signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on helping elderly people living in the Kyiv region, and providing them with modern medical care.
